Well Freeks, 2009 is in its final hours. With 2010 approaching fast, we sadly say farewell to another decade and look ahead in anticipation to the New Year.
This year was certainly a great year for gamers; with a steady stream of A+ sequels and even a couple of fantastic new IP’s (here’s to you, Borderlands), 2009 helped solidify that this “Next Gen” has been the “Best Gen” so far.
And next year is poised to be one of the greatest years in the history of gaming! 2010’s lineup of awesomeness is set to melt your face and utterly destroy your piggy bank. Games like Final Fantasy XIII, Gran Turismo 5, BioShock 2, Epic Mickey, Crackdown 2, God of War III, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Red Dead Redemption and, of course, Halo: Reach are all likely to rock—and I’m positive there will be a few surprises that will make you salivate, too.
So, cheers! Here’s to a great year of gaming and the best to all of you in 2010.
Oh, and the holiday coupon code “xmas09” is still valid for 10% off all KontrolFreek products at our store. You really should make it your New Year’s resolution to bring up that Kill/Death ratio.

I don’t know if any of you are as excited as I am to return to the far-reaches of space with Commander Shepard and the rest of the SSV Normandy crew, but you should be. I remember the first time I slipped through subspace via mass relay to end up in another galaxy. I was freaking ecstatic. Being a long-time fan of all things space, Mass Effect immersed me in to the universe in a way few games ever have. It was just too bad controlling the Mako after 3 drinks sucked so badly.
Anyway, check out this new 3-minute trailer that popped up on the internet yesterday. If you saw the teaser-trailer last week you could fast-forward to the last minute-or-so for the all-new action-y bits, but I wouldn’t recommend it. If at the end you aren’t excited to play Bioware’s sequel to one of the best RPG’s in the last few years, well, I can’t help you.
Even though Mass Effect 2 launches January 26th 2010, it’s going to feel like one-long-elevator-ride of a wait.

The weird, wacky, Second Life-ish PlayStation Home has made its way in to 10 million homes, announced Sony earlier today. This coincides with the 1-year anniversary of the launch of the Home open beta.
Recently, a few new themed spaces have popped up, increasing the amount of cool, free stuff to mess around with. One such space is the new Sodium Hub that lets “Homies” play an interesting tank-shooter type game, squish robotic scorpions by way of boot and serve fake bar patrons even faker drinks.
I know, it doesn’t sound that great now, but as PlayStation Home establishes itself as a viable platform and attracts more developers, it will become the premier online forum. Home is the best way for devs to promote their products and create fun, interactive marketing campaigns that are only possible on PlayStation.
PlayStation Home growing and adding more content is something that you’ll be hearing a lot more about in the near future. It offers-up a unique experience that’s on the cutting-edge right now and is only going to get better. So if you aren’t one of the 10 million users who use Home, you should think about getting with the program soon.

The American Wild West seems like a real no-brainer when talking about good game material. But for some reason games featuring the exciting time period are few and far between—and the handful of games that have let us explore the milieu of the American West have not been very good.
Well, from the look of this introduction video for Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar Games is set to cap-the-climax and bring us the game that the Wild West has always deserved. Rockstar’s open-world formula set in the time period of six-shooters and wagon trains looks amazing. And if this video is any indication of the awesomeness to come, we’ll be in hog-heaven come next April.
Red Dead Redemption will hit shelves for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in North America on April 27th.

In anticipation of Spike’s big Video Game Awards show on 12/12, Bungie has launched its official Halo: Reach website. There’s not much on the site at this point other than the E3 ’09 trailer that we’ve all seen before, some wallpapers and some “Intel” items that give you a little (very little) information about planet Reach. Most of the links on the page are locked right now, but check back after tomorrow’s big awards show—where Bungie is set to premier the Halo: Reach trailer—for possibly more content*. As for me, well, I just can’t wait for that Beta I purchased with my copy of ODST to start. Hurry up 2010! *Checking back right after tomorrow’s show may lead to disappointment, frustration, suicidal thoughts, cats meowing, and non-lubricated robot dances. But seriously, Bungie definitely promises more content coming in 2010.

With Christmas apparently only 15 days away, it’s probably about time for you to put down the controller and get out there and shop. You know—deal with traffic, work through the crowds, worry about stressed-out moms hitting you, being verbally abused by cashiers at their breaking-points—shop. You have to do it, right? Wrong! You could just buy everyone on your list a pair of FPS Freeks and never leave your house! Not only will your friends love you for it, they will get tons more use out of them than any scented candle or lotion set (not really sure why I chose either of those gifts, I’m usually much better at giving gifts than that). For $9.99, FPS Freeks give you a lot of bang for your gift-giving buck. KontrolFreek products make perfect stocking-stuffers and are great for friends or “Secret Santa’s” who you don’t want to spend a lot of money on. So, be a hero. Give the gift of more kills. Give them KontrolFreek.
