Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Tournament

Since there is so much interest in Battlefield: Bad Company 2, we figured we'd inform you of a little tournament being put together by GameStop, MLG/Gamebattles and Xbox 360.  Maybe you’ve heard of it already; maybe you haven't.  Either way, the deadline for entry is 3/14 (that’s Sunday, people!) and if you haven't registered yet you should probably get on it.  The tournament is for teams of 4 and you can play from your house.  So you can essentially team-up with anyone from anywhere.  And since we have such a great community of like-minded gamers here, we figured we'd create a space for you all to meet and maybe team up to play together in this tournament.

Head on over to our forums at KontrolFreek.com now!  You can discuss BC2, recruit, form squads or just yell at each other.  Just hurry, the deadline is near.

For more info on the tournament visit: gamestop.com/battlefieldbadcompany2.

See you on the Battlefield!

By Trevor Roppolo
11/10/2009 12:40:00 PM

Out of all of the really awesome players in the U.S. who play Modern Warfare, they manage to be awesom-er.  We think that’s pretty... awesome!

So congratulations, Fear, on your third-place finish!  Keep dominating!  And keep on using those FPS Freeks.

Pro-Gamers, including $100,000 Grand Prize Champ Sign On To Support Gaming Innovators

Kelly Kelley                                         Jamal Nickens                                         Mark Smith

KontrolFreek today announced that it had landed professional gamers Kelly Kelley, Jamal Nickens, and current Ultimate Gamer champion Mark “applesauce” Smith, of the World Cyber Games (WCG) Ultimate gamer as spokespersons.

Kelley, Nickens and Smith are the first spokespersons in a series of announcements KontrolFreek plans to make in the coming months as they announce new innovations for the gaming community.  KontrolFreek’s products have been openly accepted by both serious and casual gamers who appreciate adding competitive advantage to comfort in their gaming products choices.

Specifically, KontrolFreek’s patent pending FPS Freek is a controller attachment that increase a gamer’s accuracy in first-person shooters (FPS) like Halo, Gears of War, and Call of Duty. Designed and tested by professional gamers, the FPS Freek attachment simply snaps over the existing Xbox and PS3 analog sticks, adding 40% more linear distance from full stop to stop - enhancing aiming precision and increasing overall game performance.

"When you’re playing to win, it’s important to be comfortable while taking advantage of products that are available on the market," said Mark “applesauce” Smith. Adding, "And competing in gaming tournaments is about winning. The FPS Freek add-on’s for my controllers gives me more precision. Simply put, I wouldn't play without it."

Designed to give gamers more leverage, the FPS Freek offers increased precision without disturbing the natural game-playing feel. "When you compete at a professional level, the difference between winning and losing can come at a high price,” said Kelly Kelley. "With the affordable KontrolFreek Sticks, I get the perfect advantage to my play style and game."

In addition to the FPS Freek, KontrolFreeks’ patent pending SpeedFreek gives gamers added control and comfort when playing racing and aviation games. The SpeedFreek's unique design allows gamers to relax their thumbs while keeping in constant contact with the controller. The SpeedFreek's supporting slide walls enable sharper movements while adding control and precision. "There's nothing worse than having your fingers slip off the controls during a competition," said Jamal Nickens. "When I use the SpeedFreek I don't have to worry about that happening."

KontrolFreek spokesperson Ashish Mistry welcomed the announcement saying, “we’re simply thrilled to have such a great crew of pro-gamers behind us.  It lends even more credibility to our company, products, and industry innovation.  We look forward to sharing more good news in the time to come.”

Valve released the details of their Left 4 Dead 2 pre-order offer earlier today.  Their offer, to those of you willing to fork over your hard earned cash in advance:  early demo access (woo…), a baseball bat with an American flag skin (yay…), and a 10% discount on the purchase price (that’s better).

These offers will be offered through Steam or through participating retailers starting immediately.  Early demo access begins October 27 (tentatively) and the game launches on the PC and Xbox 360 on November 17th.

The Science Behind KontrolFreek: FPS Freek
By Lloyd Cooper
8/27/2009 9:55:00 AM

Gamers often ask how KontrolFreek products improve gaming performance, so we thought we'd use our blog as a way to open dialogue on the topic.

WARNING:  This is somewhat technical...but you should probably read anyway.

Today's discussion revolves around the FPS Freek.

As you've probably seen, the FPS Freek simply snaps onto the head of your Xbox360 or PS3 analog joystick.  The FPS Freek adds approximately 40% greater length to the controller thumb stick and thus alters the configuration of your hand and finger placement ever so slightly.

In our research and testing we determined that the ideal grip range for the average size hand was between 4cm - 5cm (thumb to opposing fingers).  This is exactly the grip range that FPS Freek was designed to fit when snapped onto the analog stick.  Again, hand sizes vary, but on average, this is what our data concluded.  This grip range allows the hand to naturally make contact with the control stick surface and underbody of the controller - without requiring additional muscular effort or unnatural flexing of the joints.  While everyone's hands are slightly different and vary in size from small children to very large adults, our research subjects respond unanimously that FPS Freeks are more comfortable for their hands for extended game play as well as casual.

So can't I simply dial up the sensitivity on my current controller?

Of course you can,  but feedback has been to do both.  Users tell us that they can move faster and "lock on" more precisely when combining the FPS Freek with their sensitivity settings.  The reason gamers more quickly "lock on" targets is due to greater range of motion as well as greater mechanical advantage.

Think about a lever.

The longer your lever, the more mechanical advantage you have over the object you are trying to move. FPS Freek simply increases the length of the standard analog stick (lever) so that you can move the stick using less force.  In conjunction with less force, ones hand/eye coordination quickly adapts to the increased adjustment range from stop to stop.  By moving the FPS Freek analog tip surface over a longer distance, users have more aiming control for most key gaming situations.

Simply put, this combination of improved mechanics and control are why FPS Freeks improve gaming performance.

MW2’s MLG Playlist?
By NoXiDe
8/4/2009 11:58:00 AM

This is NoXiDe here giving you guys an idea of what I believe the rules for MLG will be for Modern Warfare 2.

Since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has had plenty of changes in the rules for MLG Variant game play; you can pretty much say that the Modern Warfare 2 will be similar to the current MLG Variant rules for Modern Warfare 2.

With the new additions of perks, attachments, and more variety of weapons to choose from, you can pretty much say Modern Warfare 2 will be a great game to compete competitively on. As you all are aware of, Bandolier is the only perk available to choose from because of the rules that Major League Gaming decided to create.

What does that mean? That means in Modern Warfare 2 you can already imagine that the rule will be forwarded into play. What about other perks? Good news is that it’s a brand new game and they will decide on what other perks to allow so that the game can be balanced and competitively friendly to all gamers.

Should we expect any new game modes to be added to the MLG Playlist besides the current three which consists of Domination, Search and Destroy, and Sabotage? Yes, expect them to add another game mode to be played but it all depends on what the Professional Players suggest to add. As for the game mode settings, it will be based on the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare current MLG Settings.

NoXiDe is currently the top ranking player on COD 4 Arena GB Rankings.  He lives in Atlanta, GA, but crushes it online daily.
