I see this a lot on snipers when they randomly double tap the Y button.. When I ask i get usually get the same answer: "Uhh idk, its habit" Why do they do it in the first place?

It stems from Halo 2.

YY was the method needed for the double shot, usually I use it now for when I am reloading and am compromised by someone a quick YY gets you out of the reload and back into shooting him. Same with sprinting .

In Halo2 "X" was required for a double shot.
The use for "Y,Y" is a quick un-scope, clear the screen to see, or in some games quick reloading.

For the quick reloading, if you watch your ammo, you'll see just when to do it, but nowadays developers have fixed this issue to where the ammo isn't back till the end of the animation.

I do it to. Its kind of like a trick shot and looks cool if you do it with a handgun rather then a shotgun or any other big secondary. because if you do it with a handgun your sniper goes to the side but with say a spas your gun goes up kind of resembling a dolphin. most of it is just to move around and it does become a habit and sometimes it is used to clear the screen for a moment. but mostly as a quickscoper we use it for cool killcams in search or if you watch my videos vaniityxgamiingps3 on youtube i do it randomly. i get across the map throwing knife on quarry in our clantage and right before i hit the guy with the knife you see me double tapping so it makes it look cooler i guess.

It serves a good purpose and I think most people who sit there doing it have no idea what YY'ing actually does/is they just think its cool because they seen it on youtube or something.

I have been told it aims your gun. I can't say its not true b/c when noscoping if you tap YY before you shoot if the enemy is close you will hit them a good percentage of the time.

1. Makes clips look a bit cooler
2. Can be a habit
3. Could be looking for a challenge
4. Trying to do a trickshot
5. If you time it perfectly it aims the crosshairs in more for a split second.
