“Smoke” rises as Sprint Cup season ends
By Trevor Roppolo
11/22/2011 1:48:00 PM

Tony Stewart Sprint Cup Champion

Last Sunday marked the end of the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup season and the end to Jimmie Johnson’s reign of five straight championships. In arguably the most exciting championship battle in NASCAR history, Tony Stewart edged out Carl Edwards for the Homestead Ford 400 victory AND the Sprint Cup trophy.

Tony “Smoke” Stewart’s performance during this race (and throughout the entire Chase, really) was an amazing feat of talent, determination and grit—and it’s something as a long-time NASCAR fan that will stick in my mind forever. He passed 118 cars (sometimes 3 at a time) on his way from the back of the pack TWICE after issues with his grill put him as far back as 40th position. He dodged wrecks, debris and problems on pit road. He dodged raindrops and big picture uncertainties with his crew. He made his car work high, low and everywhere in between. It was like he was channeling Earnhardt and the luck of the gods.

Tony Stewart was already considered one of the sport’s top drivers… In my mind now, he has crossed over to “legend” status alongside names like Pearson, Petty and Stewart’s own hero, A.J. Foyt. Congratulations Smoke!

WTF is KontrolFreek?

FPS FreeksSpeedFreeks

Happy Friday, Freeks!  Over the course of the last few days we have come to realize that only about 75% of you actually know what we do here at KontrolFreek.  I mean, we do so much more than give away brand new Xbox 360’s (although we really like doing that, too!).  We are a company made up of gamers, just like you.  We live for perfectly placed grenade kills, quick-scopes, no-scopes, ‘pistols only’ and gratuitous dog tag collecting.  We are fueled by our desire to win, the constant need to improve and a whole bunch of different kinds of energy drinks.

Well, we’ve created our products to compliment those desires.  You see, KontrolFreek products are all about helping gamers to be better gamers.  We have put extensive research into ergonomics and how your hands—and thumbs—receive the current-gen peripherals.  Our results showed that the first-party controllers were inefficient as they stood but could be improved easily without having to disassemble or modify anything internally.  Both of our current products are direct results of this research:

The FPS Freek:

By increasing the length of the thumbsticks slightly, precision while aiming is improved dramatically.  Your range of motion is increased by 40%, giving you the opportunity to make smaller adjustments and “snap” to targets much faster in first-person shooters.  This affords you the luxury of turning up controller sensitivities to get the closest feel to a mouse possible on a console.  The greater leverage offers you better control and less force—alleviating thumb-fatigue and adding more comfort to long gaming sessions.  In short, this increased accuracy and decreased thumb-fatigue results in more kills and less deaths.

The SpeedFreek:

The SpeedFreek was specifically designed to help you reach the fastest lap-times possible in racing games.  The “U” shaped attachment was developed to help you make more precise movements on the track while not allowing your thumb to slip while holding long turns.  This ability to make sharper, more accurate movements result in better performance than even the most expensive racing-wheels money can buy—and our tests have proven it!

Well, there you have it.  Whether you choose the FPS Freek or the SpeedFreek (or both), know that you’ve just taken the first step to becoming a better gamer.  We are excited that you have decided to check us out and hope that you’ll stay and play.  More good things are coming!  Oh, and good luck with winning one of those pretty new Xbox 360’s.

KontrolFreek wants to pay you $250 for your ideas!
By Trevor Roppolo
6/3/2010 10:07:00 AM

???????????????
Good morning, Freeks!  We hope that you have all checked your email by now and found our “Kicking off the summer” newsletter in your inbox.  If you are subscribed to our newsletter and still don’t have it, check your “spam” folder.  You’d be surprised how often we get mixed-in with pharmaceuticals from Canada promising a “more satisfying” love life—which we actually do too.

You see, we know that our customers want t-shirts and other garb.  But here at KontrolFreek, we’re way too busy planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse to think of good ideas for clothing (you may laugh now, but you’ll see!).  So, if you can come up with the best catchphrase or design for a KontrolFreek t-shirt, hat, hoodie or wristband, we will pay you $250 BIG ONES for it!  All you have to do is think of an idea that somehow incorporates our name, logo or products and tell us about it.  Send us your submissions in any format you like (text, JPG, scan), just make sure you send ‘em.  You can snatch graphics from our webpage or make your own—anything goes.  This is your chance to let your creativity shine and help your favorite thumb-stick accessory company help fellow gamers become better dressers.  Have fun and good luck!

Click here for the submission page!

You asked for it, you got it! New colors and a 10% off coupon for May!
By Trevor Roppolo
5/12/2010 10:09:00 AM

Good morning, Freeks!  We’re guessing that by now you have checked your email to find our announcement of our sweet, new colors.  If you haven’t, go check it now.  We’ll wait.

Pretty cool, huh?  You totally want some of those Stealth FPS Freeks, don’t you?

At KontrolFreek we listen to our customers—if you say “jump,” we say “we’re too lazy for that; how about we make different colored FPS Freeks instead?”  And that’s exactly what we did!

Allow us to give you a rundown of what we’ve done.

First of all, the Classic White FPS Freeks and Speed Freeks are still available.  They’re the time-tested original.  They won’t be going away any time soon.  You’ll want these if the standard white Xbox 360 controller is your weapon of choice.

Classic FPSClassic Speed

People who prefer PS3’s DualShock 3 or the black Xbox 360 controller will likely want to accessorize them with one of our new black combinations.

If faster lap times in racing games are what you’re after, you’ll need the Midnight Black Speek Freeks.

Midnight

If shooters are more your thing, you can choose either Stealth (black) on Stealth or Gunmetal (gray) on Stealth for your FPS Freeks—your call—either way, you’ll be fragging in style!

Stealth StealthGunmetal Stealth

In addition to these exciting new color options, we’ve also thrown together some money-saving Gamer’s Packs for you hardcore players.  You can now get your choice of three killer combinations.  You can order the Classic Speed Freeks and Classic FPS Freeks bundle, the Midnight Speed Freeks and Gunmetal on Stealth FPS Freeks bundle, or the Midnight Speed Freeks with Stealth on Stealth FPS Freeks bundle.  These Gamer’s Packs are for the gamer who needs precision no matter what they’re playing and want to look good doing it.

Oh yeah, and if you’re the kind of person who likes sweet deals, we’ve set-up a coupon code for you that will give you 10% off any purchase through the end of May.  So, don’t wait!  Go buy some already!  And stop by our forums to discuss our new colors and drop us some suggestions in our “New Product Ideas” forum.  We’re obviously listening.

Hardware Review: KontrolFreek’s Speedfreek
By JW
11/6/2007 11:03:00 AM

To put it frankly, SpeedFreek improved my time significantly
...

I have been a huge fan of racing games since I was but a youngling, playing the original Need for Speed on that newfangled PlayStation. At the time I thought it was freaking awesome to see a 3D car slam head-on into a tree. As time went by, and I grew older, I demanded more and more realism in my racing experience. I wanted better track times, better control of my car, and an overall more realistic feel for the game.

Unfortunately, I was also raised in a poor household, so my family could never afford those fancy force feedback racing wheels that I hear all of you racing aficionados talking about. Well, gaming accessories company Kontrolfreek is hoping to change that with their new device, the ‘speedfreek’ for the Xbox 360. But what is the speedfreek, and how does it work? Well, read after the break for my full rundown on the device.

Get Your Freek on with the SpeedFreek
By Matt Gibbs
9/19/2007 12:10:00 PM

KontrolFreek has debuted its newest product called SpeedFreek, a snap-on toggle that fits over the analog joystick of the Xbox 360 game controller. It offers not only more speed and control for faster turns in games like Forza 2 and Project Gotham, but may also help aleviate repetitive stress.

Gamers spend large numbers of hours glued to their game consoles. Whether playing racing games or first person shooters like Halo 3, users are constantly inputting repetitive finger and wrist motions

IGN: KontrolFreek's SpeedFreek Review
By Gerry Block

IGN.com

In a rather short amount of time we found ourselves quite pleased with it...

Controller add-ons in the console gaming space have traditionally been met with a degree of derision for being, at best, superfluous, and at worst, complete rip-offs that directly hinder gameplay. As such, it can be a tough market to break into, even when a product actually provides real advantages in games.
