The Ray Gun in BO4 Blackout: Everything you need to know

by Mason Moreau 14 Sep 2018

Why didn't we see this coming?

Ever since Treyarch and Activision released the first image of the map for their new Blackout mode, it was clear that along with the new mode, Blackout also serves as an homage to the series as a whole. Classic maps like Nuketown, Firing Range, Stronghold, and even the zombies map Verrückt make Blackout feel like a Battle Royale themed stroll through memory lane.

But who would have expected the Ray Gun to show up? What a good idea! The ever-elusive power weapon from zombies has made its way into multiplayer and we all want to know how to get our hands on it. Don't you? Good. Here's everything you should know about finding and using the Ray Gun in multiplayer for the very first time.

How/Where to find it

Simple. Kill some zombies! One of the coolest and most surprising additions to Blackout is the inclusion of zombies in the map. But nobody expected the famous weapon AND the mystery box from Treyarch's cult classic mode to make an appearance. So it would make sense that the way you pick one up would be from killing a zombie.

How likely am I to pick it up?

At this point, it's too early to tell what the drop rate is. Essentially, anywhere on the map that has a mystery box and zombies running around will be your best bet if you're trying to find it. There is one thing that everyone seems to unanimously agree on though: the asylum graveyard has a TON of unique easer egg loot. So it would definitely be a good place to drop.

How powerful is it?

SO POWERFUL. It will only take 2-4 shots to down an enemy. Treyarch have really done a good job at making the Ray Gun feel exactly like it does in zombies. But there's a catch. You only get 20 shots before you're out of ammo. So make those shots count and you'll have a fighting chance to earn that coveted #1 spot.

How do I defend myself against it?

While a point blank shot from the Ray Gun is pretty unavoidable, focusing on your armor level certainly wouldn't hurt. But the best strategy when running into someone with the Ray Gun is simple. Run away.
