A Good Day to Game

by Ashish Mistry 27 Oct 2017

Every gamer knows that autumn doesn’t just bring sweet relief from summer heat, it’s also the season of big releases for the video game industry. This year has been one of the most exciting years for gaming in a very long time, and as the year winds down we have some of the most anticipated games of the year to look forward to. While the next few months will have some huge releases peppered throughout the season, October 27th is one of the most highly concentrated game release dates ever. This will be a day for the records with the release of 3 much-anticipated titles on the SAME DAY! You can get your hands on Wolfenstein II, Super Mario Odyssey, and Assassin’s Creed Origins. The only question that remains, which one will you pick up first? Check out what we know so far about these highly anticipated titles and prepare yourself for these new games by finding your perfect fit for your controller and gameplay style.

Assassin’s Creed Origins
Assassin’s Creed Origins is the 10th installment in the long-running Assassin’s Creed series. This chapter is going all the way back Egypt and exploring the origin of the Assassins and their age-old conflict with the Templars. Origins is adding some pretty significant changes from previous Assassin’s Creed titles, as well as improving upon the core gameplay mechanics players have come to expect from the series. One of the biggest changes comes in form of RPG elements being incorporated into the game. You can now improve your character by customizing armor and weapons, along with an upgraded talent system so you can play the way you want to. We’ve seen a lot of gameplay videos highlighting the new game features, and you can check out IGN’s video below that shows what some high-level gameplay is going to look like in Assassin’s Creed Origins!

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
2014’s Wolfenstein: The New Order delivered an explosive story and broke the standard mold for FPS Games by focusing heavily on the campaign and not on multiplayer. 3 years later and after much anticipation, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is set to come out on October 27th. Players have already had their chance play the demo which features the series protagonist, B.J. Blazkowicz, wheelchair-bound and trying to survive an attack by Nazi soldiers. What Wolfenstein II does extremely well is provide a sense of weight and heft to all the B.J.’s actions. Gunfire feels like it has a real impact, and it’s immensely satisfying to fire any of the many, many weapons provided in the game. All the great things that The New Order got right have been polished and applied to The New Colossus, as well as several new features that are making their debut. If you are looking for an extremely fun Nazi killing experience with an amazing story, this is the game for you!

Super Mario Odyssey
Nintendo’s pipe jumping plumber has been bouncing around games since the 80’s. This October, Mario is embarking on his biggest journey yet with Super Mario Odyssey. Made famous for the simple gameplay and complex puzzles, the Mario franchise was one of the first games to explore 3D rendering and has continued to innovate and improve upon the experience. From what we’ve seen, Odyssey is continuing this trend of improvement in some really unexpected and creative ways. While the series has always had some fun little sidekicks and companions, Mario has a brand new friend to journey with in the form of a hat with eyes appropriately named Cappy. In lieu of power-ups, Mario can now toss Cappy and take control over whatever character he lands on. The levels are bigger, the characters more colorful, and we can’t wait to get our hands on the newest chapter of Mario! In case you missed it, we recently came out with KontrolFreek gear for the Switch! If you are picking up Mario Odyssey, make sure you add some KontrolFreek performance to your Switch.

That’s what we know so far about this amazing day of gaming releases. Whether you will be stalking your enemies from the shadow in ancient Egypt, taking down hordes of Nazi soldiers in an altered timeline, or exploring new worlds with a hat companion, there is something for everyone this October. Which game will you be picking up first on the 27th?!
