Best Settings

Now that you’ve upgraded your controller and the rest of your gaming setup, let’s talk about the best controller and game settings to set you up for the best gaming experience in Diablo IV on controller! First thing you should know about playing Diablo IV on controller is that the Diablo franchise and gameplay was not designed for controller in the past, but all of that has changed for Diablo IV. Controller settings are now natively supported for Diablo IV, but that being said, the controls are somewhat complex, so it’s important to optimize them to your playstyle.

First up in Controller Settings, we’re going to leave controller vibration on for this game.

Next up is Cursor Sensitivity, which we increased to 6 but this is largely personal preference.

Our theory with Dead Zone settings is to leave them as small as possible without experiencing unintended inputs or “drift”, but this will change for each controller base on a variety of factors, so test this out for yourself, decreasing those numbers until you experience an issue and then increase the dead zone by 1 or 2 so that unintended input is covered up by the dead zone.

In the Gameplay Settings, we’re going to turn off Combine Interact and Basic Skill. This will enable us to have a different button for interact and basic skill.

For the Controller Bindings, you want to find something that’s comfortable for you to use. We use X for Interact, L2 for Basic Skill, and R2 for Core Skill. Square, Triangle, Circle, and R1 for Skill Slots 1 through 4 respectively. We have Evade set to our L3, but only because we use a controller with paddles on the back that we have Evade mapped to. If you are using a default PS5 or Xbox controller, we recommend remapping evade to one of the buttons like Circle or maybe R1, to make it easier to activate mid fight while you are moving around with the left stick. For those who have a controller with back paddles, we mapped our other paddle to Core Skill 4 (R1), so that we can quickly use that skill in combat. Use potion we have mapped to L1. We have Mount Combat dismount mapped to L2 as well to be consistent with our Basic Skill.

Hold to Lock Target we have turned off and Persist Target Lock is also turned off. You can still press R3 to lock target, but turning these off will make it easier to Cycle Locked Target, which we have turned on.

Lastly, our D-pad settings are Up for the Action Wheel, Right for Mount, Down for Town Portal, and Left for Respond to Social Request.

Diablo IV is incredibly fun on controller. The game takes full advantage of all the functionality of the controllers to provide you with a complex yet intuitive gameplay experience that makes it super fun to endlessly slay hoards of enemies.
