Ghost of Yōtei: Best Controller Settings for Precision, Control, and Performance
Sucker Punch Productions has finally released the anticipated sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, with another Game of the Year contender as Ghost of Yotei lives up to its expectations. Another beautiful yet brutally challenging game that tests the limits of anyone, regardless of their experience or how well they mastered the previous game, is Ghost of Tsushima. You will quickly discover that Sucker Punch doubled down on their dedication to creating a game with incredible and realistic-feeling combat, as precision and responsiveness are better than before. Much like Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yotei also relies on timing, fluid transitions, and precision when it comes to having success during combat. You will need to master skills such as parries, dodging, stealth takedowns, and multiple weapons, as the biggest change to combat is that you no longer have stances like in Ghost of Tsushima.
Following a rich story of vengeance as Atsu (you) hunts down the Yotei Six to exact revenge for her slain family. Unlike the previous game, you will not follow a straight path to your goal, and with the non-linear story, you are more likely to end up in battles much more challenging than expected. This further drives home the fact that you need every advantage you can get to defeat all of the Yotei Six and their henchmen. Without the “rock, paper, scissors” like stances in combat, you will need to rely on several new weapons, as well as timing and judgment, to survive. The harsher environment of being further north plays another factor, and if you are not careful, the temperature or even the snow can be the cause of your demise. Even your enemies have improved, as new enemy AI upgrades will keep you on your toes as they will change weapons, switch up their attacks, and use better strategies to put you at a disadvantage.
Ghost of Yōtei Controller & Game Settings for Peak Gameplay Precision
To give yourself the best chance of survival in Ghost of Yotei, I have a few recommended settings that will give you a leg up before the battle even begins. First, you will want to make sure you have your camera optimized because there are many directions attacks can come from, and being able to quickly turn impacts your awareness. Change your Camera Speed to fast to make sure you can respond quickly to any incoming attacks and to help with the quicker turn, turn Motion Blur to off, so that you can quickly turn without losing increased visibility in fights. For those who want to make sure there are minimal distractions during combat, you can change your HUD Style to Expert to take away unnecessary displays and increase your ability to see. Depending on your desire for high-quality graphics, you should change your Graphics Mode settings to Performance to make sure your console is prioritizing performance over quality.
If you find yourself struggling with the Bamboo Strikes to gain Spirit, there is a helpful setting in Accessibility that gives you unlimited time when performing the strikes to give you the most time to memorize the buttons. Unlike other games released this year, you will not be able to individually map your controls, but you can choose between controller setting types. If you are more familiar with Dark Souls or Elden Ring, Melee Alternate vs Default controls allow you to parry or attack using your triggers instead of buttons. For Vibration Intensity, the Subtle setting will be strong enough to warn you of an attack or projectile, but not enough to disrupt or throw you off in combat.
Unlock Atsu’s Full Potential with KontrolFreek Performance Aim Boost Kit
In Ghost of Yotei, Atsu will be welcomed with a multitude of new weapons to learn and master throughout the game, and oftentimes, you will need to switch weapons mid-battle to gain an edge. When given so much versatility during battle, you will want to make sure you are fully prepared to adapt to any given circumstance, and KontrolFreek’s Galaxy Aim Boost Kit Edition will help you unlock your full potential. Including not only the KontrolFreek Galaxy Performance Thumbsticks, but you will also get 3 Precision Rings ranging in strength (soft, medium, hard) that will take your aim and overall in-game performance to the next level. The added height gained from the high-rise thumbstick will help you make sharper and more precise movements with an increased arc distance to ensure you have the utmost control when aiming your bow or lining up a perfect shot while in stealth. On top of the added control and precision gained from the high rise, both thumbsticks have a unique laser-etched concave design to provide more surface area for your thumbs, and the tactileness from the rubber will help reduce slippage in the heat of combat. Lastly, the mixed height allows for you to gain the most versatility while playing as many parts of Ghost of Yotei will require both your thumbs to work rapidly in tandem while retaining swift and precise movements.
When you combine the Galaxy Performance Thumbsticks with the Precision Rings, this is where the full potential can be unlocked, as many gamers tend to lose accuracy and precision with higher sensitivity due to overcorrecting themselves. To combat that issue, KontrolFreek’s Precision Rings allow for any player to boost their control sensitivity while enjoying key resistance gained from the rings to eliminate overcorrecting. These rings that come in Hard, Medium, and Soft are extremely easy to equip on any universal controller, with their durable material preventing them from losing shape. I would encourage anyone who is new to KontrolFreek’s Precision Rings to test out various sensitivities while using the soft ring resistance to figure out what is comfortable for your gameplay. You will realize their effectiveness instantly as you will be able to use the high sensitivity coupled with the advantages gained with aim assist to seamlessly snap to each enemy in rapid succession without the fear of losing control and missing. Consistently landing shots and being able to move exactly how you want without the limitation of the game or your own equipment will allow you to unlock Atsu’s full potential while hunting down the Yotei Six.
Best Weapons and Tools to Use to Your Advantage in Ghost of Yotei
As Sucker Punch has moved on from using your Stance as the main factor in battle, as in Ghost of Tsushima, you will now rely more on the weapon or tool of choice to take down the enemy in front of you. Many weapons will be at your disposal in Ghost of Yotei, but I have found 3 that complement precision and accuracy-focused play and still have devastating effects. The longest range of the 3 is the Yumi longbow, which, when lined up accurately, can be lethal to almost any enemy regardless of their armour as long as you hit your shot. The downside is the slower draw speed, which is made up for by the increased damage you can deal when landing a precise shot. Next is one of my favorites, the Tanegashima Matchlock Rifle, a single-shot weapon that deals massive burst damage and even has armor-piercing capabilities. Although you will have a smaller window to line up shots than the longbow, you can still be rewarded with devastating damage to multiple enemies when accurate. Just make sure you do not miss often because the reload time can be dangerous when overwhelmed.
Last is the starting weapon, the Wolf Blade Katana, a balanced and easy to master sword that can be crucial when the battle turns into close combat. You will need to focus on learning timing for parries, but fortunately, the Wolf Blade has one of the widest windows, so it is perfect for learning parries for newer players. If parried correctly, you will be able to cut enemies down seamlessly with precision kills or allow for a fluid transition into a chained combo of attacks. Each of these weapons comes with its own advantages and disadvantages, but with the right practice and KontrolFreek Performance gear, you will be the Yotei Six’s worst nightmare.
