Modern Warfare Gunsmith: The Best Weapons & Attachments According to the Pros

by Mason Moreau 21 Nov 2019

How do I pew pew better?

Let's say you're booting up Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for the first time. You pop into multiplayer, play a few matches, and finally unlock the ability to create loadouts. You open Gunsmith for the first time and are immediately overwhelmed with the number of options you've been presented with.

What's the difference between a G.I. Mini Reflex and a Cronen LP945 Mini Reflex? What does adding grip tape to the gun even change? Most importantly, what combination of this seemingly endless list of attachments will boost the stats that fit your playstyle?

This was us right around the time the game launched. The hot topic of office conversation continued to revolve around which attachments were good, which ones were confusing, and which ones were... challenging.

Then we opted to seek out the expert opinions. What we found is that the top-tier CoD players are very open with their loadout choices. So it's about time to share the love with a quick overview of the top-tier weapon builds and why their attachments have proven to be so effective.

The Weapons and Players We'll Focus on For this Post Are:

  • Apathy's MP5

  • Simp's M4A1

  • ZooMaa's MP7

(Just because they're kind of the meta at this point)

Apathy's MP5

Apathy's MP5

The MP5 is a real beast of an SMG. It strikes a very satisfying balance of power, accuracy, and control. Then when you add in the 10mm Auto 30 round magazine for extra damage and range, you have a top-tier gun. But the 10mm mag does come with a few drawbacks in the form of an increase in recoil and a decrease in mag capacity. With Apathy's build, we see him adding attachments that mitigate these setbacks, and add even more stability.

  • Muzzle: Muzzle Brake
  • Underbarrel: Ranger Foregrip
  • Ammunition: 10mm Auto 30 Round
  • Rear Grip: Stippled Grip Tape
  • Stock: FFS Close Quarters Stock

Simp's M4A1

Simp's M4A1

With the specific distinction of being the loadout we ran on our Twitch stream recently, Simp's M4 specs out the weapon so that it's the best of both worlds. Everything in this build revolves around the Corvus Custom barrel as the main showstopper. Hip-fire is top-notch, and the recoil is specifically managed to keep things tight at long ranges.

  • Barrel: Corvus Custom
  • Optic: G.I. Mini Reflex
  • Stock: Forge TAC CQS
  • Underbarrel: Commando Foregrip
  • Rear Grip: Stippled Grip Tape

Tip: If you haven't unlocked the Corvus Custom, the Stock M16 Grenadier works perfectly fine.

ZooMaa's MP7

ZooMaa's MP7

The MP7 packs a wallop but is not nearly as stable as the other SMG offerings. Once you spec it out to account for the heavy recoil and short range, you quickly realize that you're playing with one of the best SMGs in the game. We're sure ZooMaa has come to that conclusion with this build. The only drawback here for a casual player is the lack of an optic. So If you're comfortable with using the MP7's iron sights to help ADS time, then try this MP7 build. If not, swap the laser out for your favorite optic.

  • Barrel: FSS Recon
  • Laser: 1mW Laser
  • Stock: Forge TAC Stalker
  • Underbarrel: Commando Foregrip
  • Rear Grip: Rubberized Grip Tape

In Conclusion

These weapon builds are merely suggestions. Most importantly, they're a lesson in rearranging the stats in a way that suits your own personal playstyle. Simp, Apathy, and ZooMaa know it as well as anyone: nothing feels better than that Goldilocks moment when your attachment selection feels just right.

Feel free to experiment, FreekNation! And if you do, let us know what you're running with in the comments! Until then, we're not going to sleep until we unlock every single tiger camo for the MP5. Catch ya next week!
