Best Controller Settings & Combat Tips in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon

by Luke Panosian 27 Jan 2026

2025 was packed with several strong contenders for Game Of The Year, but not every game saw the recognition it deserved, so we will be diving into a few of the hidden gems of 2025 and what you should add to your backlog or just dive into today. Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon was released back in May of 2025 and unfortunately was buried under the heavy hitters that also dropped around the same time, such as Doom: The Dark Ages, Elden Ring’s Nightreign, or The Remastered release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. As one of my favorite RPGs of 2025, Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon has a rich story coupled with stamina-based combat and encourages exploration that channels several mechanics that have been inspired by games like Skyrim.

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon has everything an RPG fan wants, with in-depth systems and mechanics that make it unique from other games. You will be able to meet fun NPCs with quest-driven dialog options, crafting, tons of loot and awesome weapons, and even a fishing mechanic. Tainted Grail has a vast map to explore, including day and night differences, which you will need to pay attention to as nighttime enemies are on a different level. There is a nice array of combat options ranging from hack and slash, ranged, and magic. Movement is also a key component, as you will be rewarded with experience for utilizing sprint and jump, so make sure you are leveling these up to improve your evasion and athletic capabilities. A rich skill tree and character stats allow for plenty of flexibility when it comes to building your character, and you can respec with a certain item so you can explore different ways to play without being punished or locked into a specific build.

Best Controller Settings for Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon to Improve Precision and Accuracy

In Tainted Grail, combat is heavily based on stamina, so it is imperative to always keep an eye on your stamina bar and understand which moves and skills drain stamina. You will be able to choose between a first-person camera view as well as 3rd person in settings. I would recommend first-person as it is much easier to line up shots, successfully parry and dodge attacks. When it comes to sensitivity and camera control, you will want to aim for a lower or medium setting to better prepare for enemies coming from off-screen angles without overcorrecting, which can happen easily if your settings are too high. Disabling camera acceleration will also help mitigate overcorrecting and provide a more consistent feel when looking around during combat. Aim Assist is another crucial setting for those who may struggle when it comes to lining up attacks, but if it is too strong, you will find yourself fighting your own moves and inputs, so it is best to keep this on a lower or default setting.

Missed attacks can be a major waste of stamina, so landing attacks with precision and accuracy will keep your stamina high and provide more adaptability during battles. Ensuring your camera and sensitivity are sharp is key to success, and fortunately, you can remap your buttons to maximize efficiency. Depending on your grip, it might be advantageous to explore remapping dodge to a bumper to allow for quicker responses during combat, and the less travel time for your thumb will always play in your favor. Lastly, you will want to turn off motion blur to maintain a clear and crisp vision. This will help maintain precision and accuracy. Another helpful tip is that you can turn on “Tool Use Without Prompt” to make it even easier to gather materials and key ingredients without wasting extra movement or pulling up your tool wheel. I found that this can make it easier to be prepared while sourcing materials, as many rare ingredients are in dangerous locations where you could be attacked.

How KontrolFreek Improves Precision in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon

In Tainted Grain: The Fall of Avalon, you will need to be adaptable and versatile as you explore and conquer your way through the game, and in any RPG, you will use several mechanics at once. KontrolFreek’s Lotus and Frenzy Performance Thumbsticks were made for action-adventure games with versatility in mind, and depending on your style of play, either can grant you a major advantage. The Frenzy Performance Thumbsticks vary in height, with a high-rise and mid-rise that match perfectly for anyone who prefers to use ranged combat or spells, as you gain the added movement and boost in accuracy by equipping the high-rise thumbstick on your right analog stick. The added height provides extra range in motion while providing the ability to make smaller aiming adjustments to ensure every shot or spell hits its mark. For those who may be newer to KontrolFreeks or looking to improve their traction and overall control in-game, the Lotus Thumbsticks include a pair of mid-rise thumbsticks that drastically increase the surface area, eliminating slippage. You will find yourself in combat with multiple enemies at once and will need to constantly be changing your camera angles to avoid off-screen attacks, while moving rapidly to stay in the best battle position. Both the Lotus and Frenzy add traction with a unique raised design to mitigate slippage while providing plenty of comfort to combat any potential thumb fatigue that may impact your accuracy and control.

The best weapons that pair with the Lotus Performance Thumbstick will be the classic one-handed sword, which allows for quick, controlled attacks without using a lot of stamina, allowing for more flexibility in combat. Spears are another weapon that matches well with the Lotus Performance Thumbstick, as the mid-range combat calls for a methodical approach to keep enemies at a distance while maintaining sharp control of your position while handling multiple enemies. You will find the added surface area and extra range of motion provided with the mid-rise thumbstick combine for a lethal control series of attacks that can devastate an opponent or multiple enemies while maintaining a lot of stamina by avoiding errant misses. For those who like to attack from afar or surprise unexpected enemies with a barrage of spells, you will gain a serious boost in accuracy by equipping the Frenzy Performance Thumbstick. An overpowered weapon that requires utmost precision is throwing knives; these can easily mow down countless enemies as long as you can be accurate. Equipping the Lotus Thumbsticks will increase your ability to make quick aiming adjustments, and the added traction will keep your thumbs locked in as you move from opponent to opponent. Arrows are also another powerful ranged alternative and can pack a punch when you land an accurate headshot. Still, you will need to master timing and figure out the weak points for each enemy to maximize damage.
